HOLYOKE DRUG TRAFFICKING ARREST LEADS TO ARREST OF YOUTH AND HIS FAMILY

Roman Correa (hereinafter, the “Defendant”) is only 19 years old. He is said to be a “good student”.

Without the aid of a criminal defense miracle, his life, as he has known it, is probably over.

The Defendant, 19 years of age and a senior at Holyoke’s Dean Technical High School, has been charged with heroin trafficking.

He is presently being held on $50,000 bail.

He was arrested on Friday, along with his mother and sister, when law enforcement raided a home in the city’s Six Corners section and reportedly seized more than 800 bags of heroin.

He was arraigned on Monday when he pleaded “not guilty” to trafficking and related charges during his arraignment Monday in Springfield District Court.

Detectives seized 840 bags of heroin, $635 in cash and drug paraphernalia, according to the Commomnwealth.

During the raid, the Defendant’s mother and sister allegedly tangled with police, leading to charges against them, They were charged with resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.

According to Mass Live, at the arraignment, the prosecutor asked for $50,000 bail for theDefendant, citing the large volume of heroin allegedly seized plus the fact he is apparently on probation in another heroin case in Holyoke District Court.

If convicted, the Defendant faces a prison term of 42 months to 20 years, giving him incentive to flee before trial, argued the Commonwealth, who is likely considering indicting the matter.

Defense counsel opposed the request, saying the Defendant’s family could not possibly raise $50,000.Rhe Defendant is a “a good student who gets Bs and Cs,” and hopes to go to college or join the U.S. Army after graduating, the attorney argued, adding that his client also serves as a volunteer basketball coach at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke Inc.

That argument did not make the difference.

Judge William Boyle set bail at $50,000 and revoked The Defendant’s release in the Holyoke case.

The Defendant is due back in court on September 8th for a pretrial hearing or probable cause hearing on the new charge.

Neither mother nor sister were arraigned Monday.

Attorney Sam’s Take On Family Arrests And Dashed Dreams

There are two areas in which the important messages to you in this blog exist

The first one relates to the allegations against the Defendant’s mother and sister.

We have all heard horror stories of what can happen when police come to call and an altercation takes place. In this case, although the details are not really known yet, it would appear that the results were not as bad as they could have been. Of course, that depends on your perspective

Sometimes, people end up seriously injured or dead. In this case, the result was the arresting of mother and daughter.

Of course, to them, this could turn out to be a very major problem. That would be for the same reasons that I’m about to get to regarding the Defendant.

This has to do with the effects on one’s life once one achieves a criminal record.

“But Sam, doesn’t that depend on how the case ends? After all, it could end up being dismissed or the defendants being found not guilty.”

No.  it goes without saying that having criminal convictions, aside from the accompanying punishment, changes one’s life for the negative. What I am referring to right now, does not only happen upon a conviction

Let’s reconvene tomorrow.
